Writing a Novel
Each morning, I'm trying to write 500 words of a novel.
English teachers often make the case for regular reading, but I don't know many teachers that actively write.
Modelling our writing habits is not only important for setting an example to our students, but it also improves our understanding of the way that texts work.
I've learnt more about character analysis from the process of writing than I have through the process of reading.
I appreciate time is precious - especially for teachers with families - but whether it's writing an article for an educational publication in the holidays, or even just a LinkedIn post sharing an observation from the week, practicing the art of writing is an essential part of what we do as English teachers.
