Timothy Lunn, experienced private English tutor offering GCSE, A-Level, 11+ and 13+ English tuition

Online Tutoring

With 12 years' experience, over 10,000 hours of teaching, and working in some of the UK's leading academic schools, I offer one-to-one English tuition for 11+, 13+, Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE and IGCSE), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level).

Alongside my work as an experienced teacher and key-stage co-ordinator, I have examined for multiple exam boards, including AQA GCSE English Literature (2019, 2022, 2025, 2026), AQA English Language (2026) and OCR GCSE English Language (2024, 2025). Last year, I was rated Outstanding by OCR for the quality of assessment.

Read my ‘About’ section to learn more about my background in teaching and tutoring.

I now offer online tutoring, working both independently as well as with some of the leading tutoring agencies in the country.

Personalised English tuition with tailored lesson planning for 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level students

Lesson Planning

Tuition typically begins with some form of baseline assessment. Marked work, school reports and feedback from Parent’s Evenings inform this pre-assessment. If appropriate, I can even liaise with your child’s school teacher if possible.

Lessons then begin in earnest: typically we review homework and prior learning, breakdown new concepts, model their application, introduce writing scaffolds, progress toward independent writing, before reviewing progress and future targets at the end of the session. Unlike many tutors, I plan my lessons in advance, ensuring each one is carefully tailored to your child's targets and learning needs.

As your child’s teachers will tell you, progress in English takes time - and it will likely take more than a term to see tangible progress - but regular communication and correspondence will keep you informed each step of the way.

I offer both 1:1 support, as well as group tuition. The former offers personalised, individual support; the latter opens up engagement and discussion, whilst keeping the advantages of a small group.

Experienced 11+, GCSE and A Level English tutor offering GCSE English Language and English Literature tutoring, marking, and assessment services

Marking Services

Marking is the key bottleneck for every English department. This is because marking in English takes far longer than in other subjects, the interpretive mark schemes make marking more demanding, and departments often lack experienced examiners due to the time pressure that examining involves. Yet frequent, high-quality assessment and feedback is one of the most effective ways to improve student outcomes.

I have examined multiple times across a range of exam boards and have the time to mark work during the working day. I currently offer marking services to a number of clients, tutoring agencies, and businesses.

If full-time tutoring isn't what you're looking for, but you'd value additional marking and assessment support, then I'd love to hear from you. Please click onto my ‘Contact’ section to discuss your requirements and how I can help .

Additional Services

Reports and Parents’ Evenings

School reports and parents' evenings are time-limited. With large class sizes and packed schedules, reports often rely on comment and target banks, while parents' evenings are typically limited to five-minute slots per subject. As an additional service, I can offer detailed, personalised reports and longer, unhurried meetings that give a genuine overview of your child's progress.
